Society of Professional Real Estate Inspectors Code of Ethics:

The ethical philosophy of Society of Professional Real Estate Inspectors (SPREI) is simple and to the point. Honesty, integrity and full commitment to ones clients are the basic goals under which all members should constantly strive.

Under no circumstances should members involve themselves in any business enterprise that directly conflicts with the inspection process. Members should not associate themselves with business ventures of a questionable or illegal nature.

Our rules are few and simple and should be adhered to by all members.

  1. Opinions expressed by members should only be based on their education, experience and honest convictions.

  2. Full disclosure of all information regarding the subject property shall only be divulged to ones clients. Disclosure of such information to other parties shall only be done with the express approval of ones clients.
  3. Members should not recommend contractors, exterminators or any other business entities that may be considered as a conflict of interest.
  4. Members should not perform any form of contractual work on the inspected property, other than the inspection.
  5. It is highly recommended that members include a full written or typed report with their inspections.
  6. Members should disclose all other interests (financial, relationship to interested parties, etc.) that they have in the inspected property to the clients.
  7. Members should not accept additional fees or commissions from more than one interested party in the subject property without full consent and knowledge of all parties.
  8. Members should avoid opinions on market value and real estate appraisals unless so qualified to do so, and unless contracted for such services.
  9. Members should make every effort to improve and upgrade the professional status and integrity of the real estate inspection profession.
  10. Use of the SPREI logo and the Society of Professional Real Estate Inspectors name is restricted to use only by current SPREI members. Unauthorized use is subject to litigation, and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
